Kesher Israel: An Overview of the Program
Kesher Israel Congregation - West Chester, PA
Kesher Israel is more than a synagogue, more than a religious school, more than a center for life-cycle events.
We strive to be a caring community helping each other on our "Jewish Journeys", finding a greater purpose and
meaning in our daily lives. We aspire to make our community & our world a better place through active Jewish
living and informed by Jewish learning.

Scrip

An Overview of the Program

"What is scrip?"

Scrip n : a certificate whose value is recognized by the payer and payee; scrip is not currency but may be convertible into currency

KI Scrip is an extremely efficient fundraising program that costs KI and the participants of the program absolutely nothing.

KI pre-buys “scrip” – in the form of coupons, vouchers, gift cards - from a number of charitably-minded local supermarkets and other retailers. Our members can then purchase these coupons from K.I. at face value and use them for the purchases they regularly make in these stores, just like cash. For every $10 of scrip that gets used, the store donates a small percentage back to Kesher Israel.

"Why should I buy K.I. Scrip?"

“Well – you gotta eat!” If you regularly shop at a particular supermarket or store that supports our program, you can have the convenience of purchasing a pre-paid voucher (more of which are starting to resemble the credit-card sized gift voucher), and then using it just like cash at your regular store. No more fumbling with cash or checks at the checkout!

And of course, by pre-paying for your groceries and items like this, KI gets a significant financial donation. Just as an example, if every KI family participated in the program and purchased only $50 of scrip a week, K.I. would realize over $25,000 in donations a year!

"How do I participate?"

It could not be easier. Just purchase your scrip either from the KI office during the week, or at the scrip table in the entrance to the Religious School on a Wednesday afternoon or Sunday morning. There are no forms to fill in, just a simple cash, check or credit card transaction to purchase your scrip.
